Sunnybrae important notice

13/08/2017

Hello everyone It is with deep regret and sadness that I write to tell you that one of our Year 1 students, Lily Liu in Room 6 has died unexpectedly. Some of you will know that Lily became ill recently and has been in hospital receiving treatment; unfortunately this was unsuccessful and she passed away on Friday morning. If you think that your child/children know Lily or her brother Larry, we would appreciate it if you could talk to them about her death before they come to school tomorrow. It is possible that some children will be upset about what has happened and they will need your support to comfort and reassure them. The class teachers too will be keeping a close eye on their students next week. If you have any concerns about your child’s reaction to what has happened I suggest that you talk to their teacher or me to ensure that we can support them appropriately at school. Lily’s brother Larry is in Room 17. It would be good if you could talk to your children about having empathy for Larry by not prompting conversation with him about what has happened, but supporting him if he talks to them about it. I know that as parents/caregivers of young children you will be shocked by what has happened even if you did not know Lily and that your thoughts will be with the family at this very sad time. It is at times like this when we value being part of such a caring and supportive school community. Thank you very much for your understanding. Kind regards Jennie Stewart Principal
