Teachers Strike - Thursday, November 15th 2018

26/10/2018

Kia ora, Picton School will be closed due to industrial action by Teachers and Principal Union (N.Z.E.I.) The majority of teachers at Picton School are N.Z.E.I. members will be going on strike on Thursday, November 15th. We wanted to let you know the reasons for this New Zealand wide action. The teaching profession is facing a crisis of recruitment and under funding, especially in regards to Special Needs resourcing. We want to have more resources to better help your children. More money is needed to better support children who are currently missing out. More money is needed for smaller classes. More money is needed to attract and keep the very best, trained professionals. We do not take strike action lightly, we feel passionately that we have to stand up for the free, high-quality public education that you and your children deserve. Ngā mihi, Sheriee Jamieson Board of Trustees Chair and Dave Sullivan Principal
